Data Validation: Drop-down Lists in Excel

Published on: July 25, 2015

Welcome to the 14th Excel Tutorial where I show you how to do data validation. This tutorial only focuses on Drop-down lists. There are other forms of validation which I will cover in another tutorial.

Although this looks like a complicated feature of excel, it really isn't. All you need is some "valid" data and then tell Excel to ONLY allow the user to pick one of these values. If they pick something else, or even make a typo, it will give them an error. This is sometimes known as 'Idiot-proofing' and I have to admit it works, even with myself because like everyone else, I'm human and prone to mistakes.

This is a quick tutorial, I hope you enjoy it and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
